Prof. Asaad Nayyef on K-Peritia Conference and Training in Venice 2025
I had the privilege of attending an exceptional event for K- PERITIA Venice Conference 2025″ “Advancing Cultural Expertise’s Global Professionalisation.”
This event, funded by COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology) and the European Union is part of the CA22101 hosted at the Royal Anthropological Institute of the United Kingdom and Ireland. It brings together leading scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to explore the global impact and applications of cultural expertise across disciplines and professions, held at Ca’ Foscari Sala Berengo, Venice, Italy.
Additionally, I participated in the insightful workshop by Valentina Barnabei – What is Cultural Expertise? and Dina Hadad – Cultural Expertise in Common Law and Civil Law Legal Systems also with Noora Arajärvi – Cultural Expertise Across Jurisdictions, which took place at the University of Ca’ Foscari Venice from February 13, 2025, to February 15, 2025, funded by COST.
The event was meticulously organised and brought together distinguished experts and professionals from around the world to engage in thought-provoking discussions on the role of cultural expertise in legal systems. With a special focus on diverse jurisdictions and procedural applications, the sessions fostered deep intellectual exchange and cross-disciplinary insights.
I want to express my sincere gratitude to the K-Peritia team, particularly Professor Livia Holden and Professor Dina Hadad, as well as the esteemed speakers, for their invaluable contributions. A special thank you also goes to COST for facilitating such an insightful event.
This workshop has given me, and I am sure many others, much to contemplate as we work towards a world where cultural expertise can be a powerful tool for justice, equity.
K-Peritia’s ongoing commitment to advancing cultural expertise resonated throughout the event, reinforcing its significance in shaping international legal frameworks. As our global network continues to expand—now encompassing members from over 60 countries—the collaboration and shared knowledge generated during these sessions have proven invaluable.
The dynamic discussions and immersive atmosphere provided fresh perspectives that will undoubtedly shape my future contributions to cultural expertise, legal practices, and international research. I am grateful for the opportunity to engage with such an esteemed community and look forward to further collaborations in the future.
Hosting this prestigious gathering in Venice, a city renowned for its rich cultural heritage and deep historical significance, added an unparalleled depth to the discussions. The city’s unique blend of artistic grandeur and legal history served as an inspiring backdrop, reinforcing the importance of cultural expertise in shaping global legal frameworks. Walking through the labyrinth of narrow alleys, crossing the historic Rialto Bridge, and witnessing the beauty of Piazza San Marco and the Grand Canal made this experience even more enriching.
