What legal principles shape cultural expertise in civil law and common law systems? Through two speaker sessions and practical activities, this course introduces the frameworks within which cultural expertise operates and explores the principles that regulate it in these two legal traditions also including so called “mixed systems”.
Understanding cultural expertise also means understanding the legal context in which it is used. Bringing civil law and common law systems into view encourages participants to look beyond the technicalities of a single familiar framework and consider how legal principles shape the field.
The course offers a foundation for students and professionals interested in the relationship between cultural expertise and the legal procedures, combining an introduction to the legal frameworks with opportunities to engage actively with hypothetical cases.
